Being in hospital can be difficult, especially for children. That’s why MY Hospitals Charity has created the Children’s Services Fund: to make every hospital stay brighter, more fun, and full of smiles.

With our friendly mascot Hari the Hippo leading the way, we’re filling wards with toys and creative activities, and enhancing environments that the NHS can’t fund alone.

MY Children's Fund projects

In June 2025, a new kitten scanner was installed on Pinderfields Hospital’s children’s ward (Gate 46) and, contrary to popular belief, it doesn’t scan cats! Instead, it’s designed to help our young patients feel more comfortable ahead of their MRI scans. This clever 'scanner' allows children to practise having an MRI with support from our play specialists and even offers different language options to make it accessible for more families. They can choose a toy to ‘scan’ and as each toy contains a special chip, when it goes into the scanner, the monitor shows the toy having its own MRI scan.

Families can also download the Philips Scan Buddy app at home to help children prepare for their scan in a fun and reassuring way. This fantastic tool will help children understand what an MRI involves, reducing anxiety and improving scan quality.
